[Obituary
& Photo]
|
1950's
- very early 1960's |
"My
dad, "Rosie", owned the 520 Bar @ 5th and Edgmont next to Sears
downtown in the 50's and very early 60's. I spent hundreds of hours
growing up in there and still remember every name and every face. I have
wonderful memories of growing up in a wonderful, thriving town. I received
a real education as a teenager working for John
McGovern in his men's store and talking with Mr. McGovern for hours
about business and life. I would not have traded it for the world."
Thanks to
Gary Rosenberg, Hot Springs, VA According
to his obituary, Mr. Rosenberg was also later a bartender at the Colony
Hotel. |

"Don't
have any history on it except it was a family type bar and had all it regulars. You could
go there and get a tooth pulled if you had the nerve, but of course if you didn't you just
took a couple stiff shots and then you said go ahead. There was an apartment over the top
which I think may have housed a couple of families."

My grandfather started it as a grocery store sometime in the 20's, turned it into a bar sometime in the 30's, and it was run by my dad Ted Mark and uncle Joe Mark until it closed in 1974. Don't know if anyone is living there now, but the aluminum front facade still has the "Mark's" sign on it. It can't come down without taking the whole facade off."
