Joe's Market
Corner of Rose & Walnut Streets

Photos courtesy of Joe Smagala

"Joe's Market, owned by my parents (Joe and Cathy Smagala), was located at the corner of Rose and Walnut Streets. This photo (above) was taken on August 30, 1961, the day my mom and dad took over ownership of the store. The names of the previous owners (Troy and Laura) can be seen on the glass panels above the doors

Joe's Market as it appeared on January 14, 1962. Located at Rose and Walnut Streets, it was one of several small family-owned neighborhood grocery stores within a three-block area. Other stores were Sordi's (Dupont and Chestnut Streets), Tony's (12th and Spruce Streets), Frank's (Rose and Potter Streets), plus another store, the name of which I can't recall, at Rose and Upland Streets.

- Thanks to Joe Smagala
