Dog Mascot Buried As Chester Mourns

Special to the Evening Ledger

Chester, Jan. 30, - Many citizens of Chester today attended the funeral of Tippy, popular Boston bull mascot of the Franklin Fire Company, who died Saturday at the dog hospital of City Veterinarian Fred Hardman.

The Veterinarian said Tippy suffered internal injuries when he was run over by the Franklin Company pumper.

Four boys, dressed in blue parade univforms, acted as pallbearers, while the firehouse bell tolled and the city fire alarm sounded.

A bodyguard of twelve firemen formed in double rank as the animal's coffin was carried to an automobile and taken to the dog cemetery of the Delaware County S.P.C.A., near Sandy Bank, six miles from Chester. Pupils at the nearby Franklin School were excused for one-half hour to watch the funeral.
