End of World War II

Chester Times Photo

Photo courtesy of Bob Weigand, Grandson of Elmer

Notes: For the second time in three months Fire Chief Elmer Weigand (right) and Mayor Ralph F. Swarts stood at Fifth and Market to tap out eight blasts on the city fire alarm system to signal the end of a war. This touched off the wildest celebration Chester has ever seen.
