Text of Obituary:
Thomas Winfree, 61 years old, for many years a prominent contractor of this city, died in the Chester Hospital this morning shortly after 10:30 o'clock. He had been ill for more than a month and was bedfast for three weeks.
Mr. Winfree was the son of the late George Winfree, who also years ago was well-known in Chester as a bricklayer contractor.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Caroline Winfree, by four sons, Wesley, Earl, Howard and Fairthorne; by three daughters, Helen, Myrtle and Marion; and by one sister, Miss Elizabeth Winfree, who is ill in the Chester Hospital.
Mr. Winfree was active as a club and lodge member in Chester and was affiliated with the Chester Lodge, F. and A. M., No. 236 with the Master Mechanics and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon.
No funeral arrangements have been made as yet.
Notes: George Winfree was born in 1838 in Virginia and died in 1916. He is buried at Chester Rural Cemetery. He was survived by his wife Rachel Belcher Winfree and three children Elizabeth, Isabella, and Thomas. Tom was born 1869 and died in 1930. Tom’s son Howard became Chief of Police in Chester. Tom’s son Wesley worked as a bricklayer until he joined Sun Oil Co. Wes stayed with Sun Oil until retirement. (My grandfather Charles B. O’Neill and Uncle Fine also retired from Sun Oil. Wesley was born in 1912 and died 2-3-75 He was survived by his wife Dorothy O’neil Winfree and five children Wesley, Howard, John, Tracy, and Christine.
