Text of Obituary: NORFOLK - Theresa D. Pritchard, 66, went to be with the Lord on Aug. 25, 2001. The widow of David O. Pritchard Sr., she was married 34 years until the demise of her husband in 1992.

Mrs. Pritchard had a long and distinguished career as an elementary and preschool teacher in the Norfolk area. A 1956 graduate of West Chester State Teachers College (now West Chester University), she earned her graduate degree in 1982 from Old Dominion University. In 1991, she was inducted into the Old Dominion University Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi, a national honor society.

During her career Mrs. Pritchard had taught at St. John's Lutheran School, Monroe Elementary, Tidewater Park Elementary, and Crossroads Elementary School, where she served as grade level chair and was the lead science teacher since 1992. She was awarded the School Bell Award from Norfolks Public Schools on two occasions in recognition of grant development. Mrs. Pritchard was a member of the National Education Association, the Education Association of Norfolk, the Virginia Education Association, International Reading Association, Norfolk Reading Council and the Parent-Teacher Association.

Survivors include two sons, David Pritchard and his wife Deanne Shuman, and Jim Pritchard, all of Norfolk; her mother, Margaret DePrisco DiCave of Chester, Pa.; a granddaughter, ERica Pritchard, a sister, Helen Tracey of Brookhaven, Pa.; and a brother, Frank DiCave of Media, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Calvin Preschool Scholarship Fund, c/o Calvin Presbyterian Church, Norfolk.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 2901 E. Little Creek Road, with Pastor Bob DeWitt officiating. Burial will be private. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, is handling arrangements.

Notes: "My sister was born and educated in Chester, and taught 4th grade at Lincoln School for a few years. In her first year of teaching there, I believe I was in 5th or 6th grade at the same school. She was a highly accomplished woman, and her obituary speaks for itself. My sister had wanted to be a teacher all her life, and I was her first pupil. She taught me to read and to write long before I was of school age. It was only appropriate that I had the privilege of writing her obituary." - Helen T. Tracey
