Robert H. Murphy, 69, of Parkside, a former department manager at Crozer-Chester Medical Center, died Oct. 6 at home.

Born in Chester, Mr. Murphy lived in Parkside for the last 41 years. A graduate of Chester High School in 1944, Mr. Murphy served as manager of the printing department at CCMC for 20 years before his retirement in 1988. Previously, he had worked at the Chester Times, predecessor to the Delaware County Daily Times.

A World War II veteran, he served as a staff sergeant with the U.S. Army in North Africa, France and Germany.

A member of Our Lady of Charity Catholic Church, Brookhaven, he was active within the parish. Also active in the fire service, Mr. Murphy was a former member of the Moyamensing Fire Co. Juniors in Chester and later was a volunteer and driver for the Hanley Hose Co. of Chester. He also belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Garvey Murphy; two daughters, Eileen Murphy of Mantua, N.J. and Mariann Godwin of Glen Riddle, Middletown; two grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Charity Catholic Church, Brookhaven. Burial will be private. Calling hours are after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Minshall-Shropshire Funeral Home, Middletown and Knowlton roads, Middletown.

Memorial gifts may be sent to the Crozer-Chester Medical Center Hospice, 1 Medical Center Blvd., Upland, PA 19013.

Notes: Mr. Murphy was born 12/11/1924.
