Text of Obituary: Paul J. Klotz, one of Chester's best known musicians and old time vaudeville acrobat and theatre organist, died early today at his home, 603 West Ninth St. after a year's illness. Mr. Klotz played the piano almost from the time he was big enough to reach the keyboard and was a child prodigy, beginning professional engagements when he was only 12 years old. Later he turned to the stage and toured the Keith circuit as an acrobat with his brother, then gave up the spotlight to devote all his time to music, playing, composing and arranging. Born in Chester in the old City Hotel at Third Street and Edgemont Ave.,which was owned by his grandfather, Paul Klotz. Mr. Klotz was educated in the local schools. He began taking piano lessons from Mary Boylen, but after just thirteen sessions, she sent him home and told his mother that the child played better than she did. Mr. Klotz and his brother and father became famous around the county for their music at country dances and were in demand until a few years ago. Mr. Klotz also played with the Tony Caruso and Marty Caruso orchestras, and was last with bill Jacono's band before being stricken ill and being forced to give up public appearances. Mr. Klotz was the organist at the old Grand Theatre here when it opened and played there for some twenty years. He also played organ at the Washburn, Princess, Billy Penn and Bijou theatres. Lately he was pianist for the Chester and Marcus Hook Lions Clubs and the Optimists, and was famous for his work with the CTA Minstrels. He was musical director for the Joan Dancing Studio. He was a member of the Chester Local of the American Federation of Musicians. During stays in Wildwood, he played with the Oglesby's orchestra at the Etna Hotel and at Crest Pier, and in Lancaster he was at the Family Theatre. Surviving are his wife, Araminta M. Klotz, nee Elliott; three sons, Paul and Robert of Long Beach, Calif.,and Gilbert of Fifth and Parker Sts.; a daughter, Evelyn Klotz Frank of the 9th St. address; three brothers, Francis P. of Milmont; William, of 924 Macadam Street; and Maurice, of Atlantic City, and a sister, Mrs. Anne Jones, of Vallejo, Cal. Five grandchildren also survive. The funeral will be held at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at 603 W. Ninth St, with Solemn High Mass at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Heart with burial in Holy Cross Cemetary. The viewing will be Tuesday evening.
