Photo: Last Name: Sanbe First Name: Nicholas "Nick" Middle Name: Alfredo Maiden Name: Date of Death: July 9, 2004 Newspaper: Delaware County (PA) Daily Times Date of Newspaper: July 14, 2004 Contributor: Alfonso Sanbe Text of Obituary: Known to his many friends as "Nick". Died suddenly on July 9, 2004, at Crozer Chester Medical Center. Nick resided with his wife of 50 years Ruth (nee Gartside) Sanbe in Brookhaven since 1959. He was born and raised on 3rd & Franklin Sts., in Chester, by his parents Alfonso Sanbe and Dolly Rossetti Sanbe. His parents immigrated to the United States from Naples, Italy. His father operated the Franklin Hotel in Chester and his mother ran a small grocery store. Nick graduated from Chester High School in 1950. After graduating, Nick, through hard work, earned the knowledge and skills and became a journeyman pipe-fitter. However, that career path did not prove to be lasting. When his father passed away, Nick helped operate the Franklin Hotel on 3rd & Concord Sts. in Chester. At the same time, he also worked at Leco Vending Company in Chester.
Some years later, Nick and Ronald Lee formed a business enterprise, which is now known as Automatic Coin Vending Company. Nick employed his many connections and relationships to help develop a strong and loyal business following in Chester and the immediate vicinity. He valued his customers and they him. He showed unswerving loyalty to them, and over time, many of those customers became his friends. Nick did not judge people by what he was told or by what they had, rather by who they were.
Nick had many interests. As a youth, he loved horses. That interest waned little over the years. He continued to enjoy going to Ridley Creek State Park, with his beloved wife Ruth, to enjoy the simple pleasure of watching them. He also possessed an abiding interest in professional sports. He had an expressed affinity for the Phillies, Yankees and the Redskins.
He was a participant in civic organizations and attained the position of Exalted Ruler of the Chester Elks Club. More recently, he was an active participant in the Royal Order of Moose Club 1578, as well as a member of the Delaware County Tavern Owners Association and the Chester Republican
GOP.
His strongest passion was his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Ruth (nee Gartside) Sanbe, a son Alfonso Sanbe of Chester, a daughter Linda Zaffiri of Aston, grandchildren Nicholas, Alfonso, Angela and Nicole Sanbe and Daniel Zaffiri. He is also survived by his brother Dr. Charles Sanbe of Aston.
Friends may call on the family on Wednesday evening after 7 PM July 14, 2004 and the following morning at 9 AM at the MINSHALL-SHROPSHIRE FUNERAL HOME, located at Rt 352 & Knowlton Rd., Middletown, PA. Funeral Services are scheduled for Thursday July 15, 2004 at 10 AM at the funeral home. Interment shall follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Concord Rd., Aston, PA.
