Text of Obituary: 

Joseph W. McKay Sr., 72, formerly of Chester and a decorated veteran, died March 15 at the Wallingford Nursing Home.

Born in Philadelphia, he was a resident of the west end of Chester until moving to Wallingford 10 months ago.

He was the owner and operator of Adams Hotel in Chester for 25 years.

Mr. McKay was a 1943 graduate of Chester High School, a lifetime member of the Herbert Best VFW Post 928 of Folsom, a member of St. Hedwig's Roman Catholic Church, a lifetime member of St. Hedwig's Catholic Club and the Felton Firehouse in Chester.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II and received the Pacific Theater Ribbon with nine stars, the American Theater Ribbon, the Victory Medal and the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with two stars.

He was the son of the late Francis and Edna M. Harris McKay.

Husband of the late Stella F. Rzasa McKay, he is survived by two daughters, Barbara Nolan of Bayville, N.J. and Patricia Abbott of Milmont Park; a son, Joseph W. McKay Jr., two sisters, Edna Mae McKay of Chester and Betty Weigand of Aston, a brother, Francis McKay of Upland and six grandchildren.

His funeral will be after 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Kaniefski Kendus D'Anjolell Memorial Home of Trainer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Hedwig's Church, 4th and Hayes St., Chester.

The family would appreciate contributions to the Compassionate Care Hospice, 100 Grant Drive Suite 200 Media, Pa 19063.

Notes: Mr. McKay was born 12/21/1923.
