James J. Lykens, 67, of Twin Oaks. Upper Chichester. a former Westinghouse employee and volunteer firefighter, died suddenly July 26 at Crozer-Chester Medical Center.
Son of the late James T. and Margaret King Lykens, Mr. Lykens was born, raised and educated in Chester. He was a graduate of St. Michael Parochial School and St. James Catholic High School.
Mr. Lykens remained in Chester for most of his life, moving to Upper Chichester in 1985.
He worked as a mechanist with the Westinghouse Corporation for more than 30 years until his retirement in 1986.
He was a volunteer fireman with the Moyamensing Hook and Ladder Fire Co. in Chester for 15 years. Mr. Lykens was also a member or the Short of Breath (S.O.B.) Club in Ridley Park and Brookhaven.
He was a member of Blessed Katharine Drexel Catholic Church in Chester.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Marjorie Knight Lykens; a daughter, Patricia Lykens of Philadelphia; a son, James D. Lykens of Salineville, Ohio; two sisters, Margaret “Peg” Diggins of Chester and Kathleen “Kas” Johnson of Eddystone; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Lykens was also the brother of the 1ate Jean Anderson.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Katharine Drexel Church, 20th Street and Providence Avenue in Chester. Burial is in Lawn Croft Cemetery, Lower Chichester.
Calling hours will begin at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Nolan-Fidale Funeral Home, 2316 Providence Ave. in Chester.
Memorial donations may be made to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. (SPCA). 555 Sandy Bank Road, Media. PA 19063.
