Text of Obituary: Anthony J. Riccardi, 77, of Chester and Lewis, Del., a former longshoreman, died Aug. 17 at The Community Hospital of Chester.

Born in Ridley Park, Mr. Riccardi attended the former Franklin School. He lived in Chester for most of his life and began living in Lewis, Del. about 25 years ago.

Mr. Riccardi was a longshoreman for 35 years, working through the International Longshoreman's Union. He also was employed as a rigger at Sun Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Company, Chester, for 12 years before he retired in 1977.

A former member of the Franklin Fire Company, Mr. Riccardi also served as a volunteer ambulance driver with that company. A member of the former Lloyd Athletic Club of Chester, he also was an avid bowler.

Surviving are his wife, Rose M. Delfino Riccardo [Riccardi], two sons, Joseph A. Riccardi of Linwood and Anthony J. Riccardi of Cochranville, Pa.; two daughters, Rose Marie Riccardi of Chester and Dolores Cook of Simi Valley, Calif.; a brother, Francis Riccardi of Media; five sisters, Minnie Cileo of Brookhaven, Rose Snarponis of Wallingford, Lena Watras of Chester, Florence Smith of Upland and Martha Fusco of Eddystone; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The funeral and calling hours will begin at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Nolan-Fidale Funeral Home, 2316 Providence Ave., Chester. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 3rd and Franklin streets, Chester. Burial will be in Immaculate Heart Cemetery, Lower Chichester.
