Docherty (A biographical sketch from a Chester Times or Delaware County Daily Times newspaper clipping, "Know Your Police" from the collection of John C. "Snakes" Boyle, contributed by his granddaughters, Jane Boyle & Patty Boyle.) Patrolman James Docherty has lived at 207 E. 7th St. since Nov. 5, 1916, the day he was born. He attended Larkin School, Smedley Junior High and Chester High. He then went to work for the Sun Shipyard as an apprentice coppersmith. He then went into the Army and served overseas in Japan with the Army of Occupation. He returned to Sun Ship and remained there until his appointment to the Chester police department on Oct. 16, 1951. He's married to the former Blanche Barnard. A former football player and amateur boxer, his interests in sports are now confined to watching them.
