Oakley H. Berry of 1123 Concord road has been patrolling a beat for the police department for more than 12 years.

A native of Chester, he attended Watts, Washington, Douglass and Chester High Schools, and before being sworn in as a policeman worked at the Congoleum-Nairn plant, Trainer, as a machine operator, and at Sun Ship as a tank tester.

He's a member of John A. Watts Elks Lodge, and in his younger days played considerable sandlot football and baseball. He also participated in basketball and track while a student at Chester High School. Berry did special police investigating work during World War II and has four diplomas from police schools.

He is married to the former Rose Whitehead of Chester.
