J. Ryan
(A biographical sketch from a Chester Times or Delaware County Daily Times newspaper clipping, "Know Your Police" from the collection of John C. "Snakes" Boyle, contributed by his granddaughters, Jane Boyle & Patty Boyle.) Following in the footsteps of his father is John J. (Snapper) Ryan, a patrolman on the Chester police force since Feb. 15, 1943. His father, Sgt. Hugh J. Ryan, who died several years ago, was on the force, according to John "for many many years." Ryan, now 47, attended St. Michael's, Larkin and Chester High Schools, playing football and basketball at all of them. He then played shortstop and second base for an independent semi-pro team and for Easton in the Eastern Shore league. In 1950, 51 and 52, he managed the Fraternal Order of Police Little League team. Prior to joining the police force, he worked for Congoleum Nairn for 12 1/2 years as a machine operator. Married to the former Dorothy E. Blisard, they have three children, Cheryl Ann, 7, John J. Jr., 5, and Stephen H., 15 months. They live at 2711 Lehman st.
