Pompilli
(A biographical sketch from a Chester Times or Delaware County Daily Times newspaper clipping, "Know Your Police" from the collection of John C. "Snakes" Boyle, contributed by his granddaughters, Jane Boyle & Patty Boyle.) Sylvester Pompilli was a barber for 18 years before he applied for appointment to the police force in 1943. He started in the tonsorial trade when only 15 years old and after a few years opened his own barber shop at 3rd and Broomall which he operated for 15 years. Then for a year before joining the police force on Feb. 15, 1943, he worked at the Ford Motor Co. plant. Born and raised in Chester, he attended public schools here and played football and baseball on several neighborhood teams. He's married to the former Regina Jacona and they have two children, Filideo (Phil), 16, a junior at St. James High who plays on the football team, and Sylvester Jr., 11, a St. Anthony's pupil. They live at 114 E. 22nd st.
