Joseph F. Devlin

(A biographical sketch from a Chester Times or Delaware County Daily Times newspaper clipping, "Know Your Police" from the collection of John C. "Snakes" Boyle, contributed by his granddaughters, Jane Boyle & Patty Boyle.)

A former member of the vice squad and detective bureau, Patrolman Joseph F. Devlin recently finished several terms as president of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Chester Police Association.

Devlin, 44, was appointed to the police force on December 10, 1941. He then served four years on the vice squad until it was disbanded and then was placed in the detective bureau until last December's reorganization.

Devlin served three years in the U.S. Navy's construction battalion and after training with the 4th Marine Division, he went with them to Saipan, Roi Namur Islands and Tinian.

He's married to the former Anna B. Walker and they live at 123 Worrell st. Prior to his appointment to the force he worked for the Chester Materials Co. as an assistant foreman. Born and raised in Chester he attended the parochial schools.

Active in sports as a youth, he now considers watching them his main hobby.
