J. Cello (A biographical sketch from a Chester Times or Delaware County Daily Times newspaper clipping, "Know Your Police" from the collection of John C. "Snakes" Boyle, contributed by his granddaughters, Jane Boyle & Patty Boyle.) Harry J. Cello, a patrolman on the Chester police force since 1945, is an avid bowler, playing in the West End A League. Prior to joining the police force, he served 40 months in the Air Force and Infantry, switching from a state-side job as a mess sergeant to commanding a mortar squad when sent to Europe. He spent eight months overseas, seeing service in France, Belgium and Germany. Before entering the service he worked for Baldwin Locomotive Works as head fireman and also operated a hydraulic accumulator there. Born in 1917 in Chester, Cello attended the public and Ukrainian Catholic schools here, playing baseball, football and basketball. [Obituary] |
