S. Blakeley (April 21, 1881-1885, when he declined re-election), son of
Abraham and Maria A. (Miles) Blakeley, was born in Knowlton, Delaware
county, March 28, 1853. He was a graduate of the Pennsylvania
Military College, class of 1872. On June 1, 1874, he was admitted to
the firm of A. Blakeley & Sons, which, in 1885, was incorporated under
the title, Arasapha Manufacturing
Company, in which he filled the office
of treasurer. In 1881, he was one of the organizers of the Lincoln
Manufacturing Company, and was its treasurer and general manager until
1889, when having disposed of his interests, he retired from its
management. In
1892, he was one of the organizers of the Standard Spinning Company,
holding at different times the offices of treasurer and president, and had
general direction of its affairs for a period of ten years, when, in 1902,
having disposed of his interests in the corporation, he retired from its
management. Mr. Blakeley was elected a director of the Chester
National Bank in 1888. He was one of the directors of the Cambridge
Trust Company, and was also a member of the board of trustees of Madison
Street Methodist Episcopal Church, Chester. In
1895, he was elected a member of Common Council from the First ward, and
re-elected in 1897, after which he declined to be a candidate for
renomination.
