Former Baldt Official, Dies

Richard Jaques Bennett, Sr. who was vice president of the Baldt Anchor Company, Sixth and Butler streets, when he retired 28 years ago died, May 7, 1948 at 1:45 p m. at the Elnwood Nursing Home, Swarthmore where he had been a guest for the last six months.

Mr.Bennett, who was 88 and lived at 18 Mowry street, was an active member of Trinity Methodist Church, Eighth and Butler streets, for more than more than 70 years. He was superinndent of the Sunday School from 1915 to 1916, and assistant superintendent from 1918 to 1928. From 1925 to 1928 he was vice president of the board of trustees of the church, and served as a member of that body from 1913 to 1945. He was secretary of the board of trustees from 1928 to 1939.

For many years before moving to the Mowry Street address Mr. Bennet and his family lived on Ninth Street near Fulton. Interested in children all of his life, until recent years he was intensley interested in Boy Scout activities, giving unsparingly of his time, talents and finances in the promotion of the Boy Scout program in this area.

He was a member of Chester Lodge No.236, F. & A. M.; Royal Arch Chapter 258, Chester Commandery No.66 R. A. M.; Knights of the Pythias and Chester Lodge IOOF.

Surviving are his wife Emma A.; two sons, Col. John H. Bennett, business manager of the chemical research division of the American Viscose Company and Dr. Richard J. Bennett, Jr.. chief surgeon for U. S. Steel in the Chicago area; a sister, Mrs. Alice R. Gome, of Philadelphia; six grandchildren, Mrs.Betty-Jane Bennett Smith and Susan, Jane, Anne, Robert, and James Bennett. and one great-grandchild Pamela Bennett Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p m. Tuesday at the Ray F. Imschweiler Funeral Home, 1600n Edgmont Avenue, followed by burial in Chester Rural Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday evening between 7 and 9 p. m.
