Jacob Sapovits

Jacob Sapovits

(A biographical sketch contributed by Iris Sapovits, cfbubba@peoplepc.com

Born in Chester July 10th 1909. Graduated Chester High School, University of Pennsylvania and Temple University Law School. He was admitted to the Bar at the end of World War II. Jay taught English at Smedley Junior High School prior to his admission to the bar. Married to Adeline Cohen, his first cousin, they had one child, Michael.

Jay served on the Chester School Board for many years, as a member and then president. He later became the solicitor until his death April 24, 1968.

He also served on the Board of Revision of Taxes for the county.

Not like current attorneys, Jay was a lawyer for the people and not for the money. Many times he didn't charge his clients because he didn't think they could afford it.

He loved the city of his birth and gave endless hours to it. He attended as many school programs as time permitted. He also spent many hours at church programs. While on the school board, the students of Chester were a priority.

Jay was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend to all that loved him.
