Johnson (A biographical sketch taken from One Hundred Years, The Delaware County National Bank Chester, PA 1814-1914) Years in parentheses are years of service as a Director of The Bank of Delaware County and/or The Delaware County National Bank Humphrey Johnson (1849, 1851,
53-55), son of Humphrey Johnson and grandson of Humphrey and Ann (widow of
Lawrence Ruth) Johnson, an early settler in Upper Chichester, was born in
Chester township in 1786. In 1840, he was a director for Chester schools.
He was an iron worker, and died in Chester, March 26, 1858, aged 72 years.
President Johnson is said to have been also a descendant from Humphrey
Johnson, the original settler in Upper Chichester.
