Humphrey Johnson (1849, 1851, 53-55), son of Humphrey Johnson and grandson of Humphrey and Ann (widow of Lawrence Ruth) Johnson, an early settler in Upper Chichester, was born in Chester township in 1786. In 1840, he was a director for Chester schools. He was an iron worker, and died in Chester, March 26, 1858, aged 72 years. President Johnson is said to have been also a descendant from Humphrey Johnson, the original settler in Upper Chichester.
