Jonas Eyre

(A biographical sketch taken from One Hundred Years, The Delaware County National Bank Chester, PA 1814-1914)

Years in parentheses are years of service as a Director of The Bank of Delaware County and/or The Delaware County National Bank

Jonas Eyre (1814-20, 1824-1832), son of Isaac and Ann (Preston) Eyre, was born in Chester borough, April 28, 1769. By trade he was a merchant tailor, at that period a highly remunerative occupation, and by his industry, together with his share in his father's estate, he accumulated large means, as wealth was then retarded. He was County Commissioner in 1801, but resigned the office on April 28, 1802, when John Odenheimer was appointed to fill the vacancy. Jonas Eyre died March 31, 1836, aged 65 years.
