Hi Bernadette: I do remember the incident you mention. I'm sure I wasn't a safety at the time because I didn't last very long as one. I got into a little too much trouble back then, so a lot of incidents blend into each other. I remember you well, though, and fondly. I hope you are doing fine. Yes I rember the corn boils at the St.Hedwigs Cathloic Club.I also rember the crab feasts and the beef an beers to. What a great time they also use to have polka dances with live polka bands. I know they are still open, but they dont have much going on. I saw the President of the club MR. Allen Cylc at Christmas Mass at the church. My mom, Christine (Marchak) Rodriguez, went to St. hedwigs and graduated in 1963. I'm not sure if anyone knows but you can pick up a CD of "A Polish Christmas" (Choir of St. Hedwig Church Chester, PA) at a Polish church in Clifton Heights. My sister lives near the church and picked up copies for our entire family. The CD brings back memories of when we were younger and my mom used to make us listen to the old St. Hedwigs choir album. As much as we hated it then it was never Christmas without hearing that album. We also used to go to St. Hedwigs with our babci on Christmas day to attend the Polish mass. Again, as much as we dreaded this mass, it wasn't Christmas without St. Hedwigs. Today, I miss that old church and find the CD to be a great way to bring back memories. Just a note to let you all know that the Class of 1961 held their reunion on Sept.23.2006 and it was a real blast, an overwhelming success. It was so great to see everyone after 45 years. We had classmates that flew in and drove in from all over the country. We didn't want the night to end. We finished up the weekend by going to Mass at St. Hedwig's and taking our picture on the front steps of the church in the same spots where we were 45 years ago. The whole weekend was awesome. When I was little I grew up with stories of Saint Hedwig's, the nuns, and the fond memories my mom, Becky Zurawski, told me of when she was little. Even though I am very, very young and never really got the chance to see Saint hedwig's in its true beauty, I have the memories and the stories. I wasn't born yet but on St.Hedwig's 90th anniversary, when my mom was pregnant with me, I am told the rafters shook from the sounds of the polish Christmas carols I hold dear. even though it doesn't seem like I should be writing this, because I was never there, it still means alot to me that everyone remembers, and everyone still cares.

HI, I didn't go to ST. Hedwigs but was good friends with Theresa Lasz in High school. Also Bernadette (last name don't remember). We used to walk home from school together everyday. She worked at a pharmacy on 3rd street and I used to babysit my younger cousin (he lived next door to Peter's market). I remember also sending another cousing down to Kyj's on the weekends to get doughnuts for breakfast. I always tell my kids nobody can ever make a doughnut as good as Kyj's. I also once went to mass at St. Hedwigs, I missed mass at Rez one Palm sunday and went down to St. Hedwigs, only it was in Polish and I didn't understand a thing anyone was saying so I kept trying to follow along and fake like I knew what was being said. LOL. The name Jim Fedena also rings a bell, where you friends with my cousin Jimmy Barkley, he lived on 3rd street? My aunt Teddy used to work at Pearls, back in the 80's. Peter, Thanks for the kind words regarding my grandparents. They both took great pride in being members of St. Hedwigs parish and really treasured the events the church put on, especially since they all included dancing. I'm sure there are many current and former parishioners who would enjoy a DVD or Video made from those old films. If anyone has a copies or recommendations on how to make this a reality that would be great. Diane, Thats way to funny... I remember those exact Christmas Carol records you were referring to with the St. Hedwigs Choir. Now I have to check with my mom to see if she still has them. When my Babci use to come visit us in Virginia. I would get out the Polish CD's I bought just for her visits. It would bring back memories of Sunday's after church, when they would put that AM station down in Delaware on that played Polish Music, and my grandmother, would sing along as she prepared our Sunday dinner. My Grandfather would be reading the Sunday paper, and would always take the time to read the comics with me. Prince Valiant was my favorite( still is lol). It brings back such Great memories...

Hey Mike Shea, Want to hear something funny? When my Babci passed away back in 1995, there was an old box of records that no one seemed to want. There is an LP (remember those) in memory of Monsignor Klekotka and tucked inside, she kept all the newspaper articles from his death and funeral. I just showed them to Carol last week when she came to visit. I also have the 2 Polish christmas Carol records that our choir did way back when. I can so clearly hear Mrs. Ozor, the Kurek's and all of those great people. I've made copies for my family and love to listen to them. My Irish husband thinks its hysterical that I can sing along! I rember the old Sunday bazars in the scool gym also Daneile. They use to have the old returnable bottles of coke and the best hot dogs. Big stock pots full of hot dogs. Hi Diane, Thank goodness we now belong to a conservative Catholic church. The priest highlighted the fact that mass doesn't officially end until the final procession at the end of mass. I think some of the sisters and priests would rollover in their graves if they saw how people dressed at churched, especially during the summer you would think they were going right to the beach or pool after mass. I remember being an altar boy, and monsignor had a minor case of gas during mass, which being young boys caused us to laugh, needless to say Sister Matilda and Sister Providentia did not take to kindly to us laughing and lectured us the next day in school on our poor behavior. We just couldn't give in and say we were only laughing because Monsignor broke wind. We still try to fast every Friday throughout the year. I hope all is well with your family and please say hello to your mom for me. I Still think she was the best Den mother ever when we were in the cub scouts. Also, give my best to Gene and Carol.

(I'm an oldie but I'm not too sure about the 'goodie' part) I visit this site regularly, but it is not often I run across a classmate. I, too, have fond memories of the "good old days" in the neighborhood and remember them well. (e.g. Bomberger's, Cal's Hoagie Shop, Kyj's bakery, Kudek's, White Swan Cleaners, Grucella's Market, Piscotti's Music Store, Bank Tavern, etc.) I hope you're doing well. My memory is not yet gone, so I do still remember you. I especially remember that you were one of the few girls in class who did not always run and tell the nuns when one of us boys did something wrong which, unfortunately, was much too often. Hi Judy, I called in an order to Kyji's for Strawberry Shortcake, and Perogies (potato, cabbage & Jalapeńo), on Thursday and they said you were on vacation. My mom was kind enough to pick them up for me, for my trip up to visit her this weekend. I hope you had a great vacation and I’m sorry I missed you. The strawberry shortcake brought back all those great memories of when on a special occasion or sometimes just because they loved us my grandmother, or my Aunt Stella would surprise us with our favorite dessert from Kyji’s. I had the perogies when I got back home. They are “almost”, as good as my Grandmother's who made the best Perogies in the Whole World. I have her recipe but have yet to try and make them. The were a family staple during Lent and Fridays ( remember when everbody fasted from eating meat on Fridays throughout the year !)

I think this is great,once again just like we did in "94 the great people of St.Hedwigs ban together. I was there when we picketed the old St. Roberts when they tried to close us down. First of all, let's not play this stupid game. Dan Dan is not a serious person and did not have a Memorial day at St. Hedwig's. That day was reserved for our veterans with a mass and luncheon prepared by some great ladies at St. Hedwig's. I don't want people who happen to stumble on this website to think that Dan Dan is at all serious. So stop making a mockery of this site. I just stumbled across this site and WOW! I would of been in the class of 85 but moved to south Jersey in the middle of 4th grade. I must say my fondest memories are from my time spent at St. Hedwigs. My grandparents had a store and home on second street and I would walk there after school. I would also walk there after 6am daily mass as I was an altar boy. I remember my bests friends were Micheal Gordon and Chris Shadd. Chris And I were in the Cubscouts together and went on a camping trip before I moved away. I remember having the biggest crush on Amy Ellis. This is really cool. Anyway. I just wanted to say hello. "WOW"6 kids, are you a glutton for punishment? Just kidding, I have 3 Dillon12, Raymond 6 and Samantha 2,they keep me very busy. I live out here in the boonies, on 21/2 acres. Life is Good! I see that you were looking for Cheryl Lubas. Don Borky found me about a year ago and we have e-mailed a few times. I would love to see everyone from St. Hedwigs, I wish we could have a reunion for our class. I am a stay at home mom-activities organizer, thats what I say is my profession. hi lucy, i am ready for casino and dinner whenever you are.yeah can you believe we are going to be 40?that really suxs!but then again you are as old as you feel.boy sounds like bernadette is going to have fun...going to hawaii.sounds like she is doing good.yeah heather finally moved out on me,she moved to linwood in november.i miss having little anthony here,but i see him all the time.he is doing acting and modeling.he has been in 2 movies so far only thing they are japanese and i cant understand a word!haha!he is supposed to go to ny on friday to maybe do a movie with scarlett johannsen,its called "nanny dairies".you can also check him out on this website www.wfkids.com,search around on there and you will see him,he is only kid with red shirt on.my sister-in-law has a talent agency nad has gotten him all his work so far.well enough about my bragging,i cant help myself...hes soo cute!call me or email me.i think i have michelles # around here somewheres,she lives in boothwyn somewheres.
