Leonard Owsiany, 74
retired Scott machine operator

Leonard Owsiany, 74, of Chester, a family man devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren died Nov. 27 at Crozer-Chester Medical Center, Upland.

Born, raised and educated in Chester, he was a lifelong resident of the city. He was the son of the late Walter and Agnes Belczyk Owsiany.

Mr. Owsiany was a machine operator at Scott Paper Co. in Chester for 35 years, retiring in 1984.

He was a US Army Air Force veteran, having earned a Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, European African Middle East Campaign Medal with six bronze stars, and World War II Victory Medal.

He loved polka music and listening to Frank Sinatra.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Sarah "Sally" Die Vart Owsiany; four sons, Leonard Owsiany of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, Robert Owsiany of Brookhaven, James Owsiany of Colorado, and Lawrence Owsiany of Maryland; five daughters, Julia McDonald of Honeybrook, PA, Mary Louise Laboy of Chester, Theresa McHugh of North Carolina, Loretta Romo of Brookhaven and Christine Meier of Delaware; a brother, Frank Owsiany of Delaware; a sister, Clara "Virgie" Sauk of Thorndale; and 31 grandchildren.

He was the father of the late Michael Owsiany, who died in 1993.

The funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Providence Ave., Chester. Burial will be in Immaculate Heart Cemetery, Lower Chichester.

Vigil hours will be after 7 p.m. Tuesday and after 8 a.m. Wednesday at the Kaniefski Kendus D'Anjolell Funeral Home, 3900 W. 9th St., Trainer.
