1873 - 1957 - ? "Robert Howarth's Sons was established in 1873 and was still in business as of 1957. The original location was 2nd and Edgmont.  It moved to 8 West 6th St., then to the SE Corner of 12th & Chestnut in Spring of 1945.

It was founded by Dennis Howarth and John Mason, who soon sold his share to Robert Howarth, Sr., Dennis' father. Dennis and Robert ran the company, with the rest of the sons (John, Robert Jr and Casper) joining as they became of age. Dennis joined other ventures in 1895, and Robert ran the business until his death in 1913.  At that point, Robert Jr. took over the firm.  Upon incorporation in 1918, Casper Howarth was president until his death in 1933. Clifford Howarth Peoples (former mayor of Chester, 1939-1944) was president from 1933 to 1950, when he retired.  At this time Mary Howarth Hewitt became president.  She was the aunt of Clifford Peoples and widow of Casper Howarth, and had remained active in the company since his death.

Dennis Howarth was my gr-gr-grandfather."
