The following biographical sketch of the Rev. C. D. Dunlap is taken from the Home Directory of the Colored People of Chester, 1906 compiled by Lawrence L. Barrett & C. I. Wilson. This reference is available at the DCHS research library.

"The Rev. C. C. Dunlap, pastor of Asbury A. M. E. Church, Chester, Pa, [1903-1906-?] was born September 12th, 1860, at Clinton, S.C.

"After receiving a common school education in his native town, being felt called to preach the gospel, he proceeded to prepare himself for the same. He entered Allen University, Columbia, S. C., in 1881. After spending six years in this institution he graduated with honors in a class of six ministers from the collegiate department. Being poor, he was forced to assist himself through school by serving, as supply, in small mission points in and around the city of Columbia.

"His first important charge as pastor was Abbeville, S. C., where he served acceptable for four years. Here he was married to Miss Henderson. He served, also, at Winnsboro and Greenville, S. C. From the last mentioned place he was transferred to the Bermuda Conference and stationed at St. Paul's Church, Hamiltton. There he had great success. In 1898 he returned to the States and was stationed for ten months at Coxsackie, N. Y. From there he was transferred to the New England Conference and was stationed at Providence, R. I. From there he was transferred to Chester, Pa., where he is now serving his fourth appointment as pastor.

"He also took a course in English literature and moral science in Brown University, Providence, R. I."
