remember Mid Night Mass. I can remember having the 5:00 Am Mass as a Alter boy 5 days a week. Father McKenzie fell asleep at the alter one morning blessing the Wine. I had to ring the bell to wake him.

The confessional.....I remember thinking when I was very little that the confessionals stored all the dead bodies. I imagined skeletons piles up in there. So, my first confession was absolutely terrifying. I Also remember when I was in about the 4th or 5th grade, going to confession one Saturday, and thinking that I was a pro at this, I proceeded with my Bless me Father etc,...and told Fr Humes that I didn't remember all of my sins, but that I was really sorry for them. He proceeded to tell me to go home and not come back until I could list them all....and of course everyone in the church heard him...I can't remember making a quicker exit.

Don....thanks for the website info..I just took a picture tour of the Rez items for sale and it brought me back to my childhood memories...Imagine all those sins forgiven in that confessional for all those years ! (I hated that tiny small box room..it still frightens me today...even though my early sins were always made up and in the venial variety) if only those confessional walls could talk...they should build "at home" confessionals. please don't whack my hand again sister, I know not what I write. It is a sad period in time for all of the great students coming out of Rez.

River of Life bought the property over 5 or 6 years ago. They did not have enough funding to keep up, so they sold it to Rite Aid Pharmacy. I think they move him. The grotto is still there. Hopefully the Sisters of Charity gets to keep it.

Linda, I'm envious. I would have loved to have taken that last walk through. I heard from another friend, that he bought one of the poor boxes. (Your mom's a funny lady!! HAHA)...as for the pretzel.....wow....mystery solved after all these years!! I hope you took pictures! How many kids from Rez can claim to have been locked down in that boiler room as punishment?? I know my sister can. God, the memories. I know we are all saddened by this news. I can't believe it's really happening. The place of our childhood will be gone. All the more reason to help keep the spirit alive. I hope our next reunion is soon....we need to grieve together and celebrate the place that is was. It's even worse that it is happening at Christmas time. Has anyone heard what will become of Fr Ganster's grave and the grotto???

Yesterday I along with Roy and my son Jesse I toured Rez,for the last time.I purchased one of the Holy Water fixtures. My mother said I needed to buy my own confessional! I played dumb to that comment.We toured the annex, opened the door to that infamous "boiler room", laughted in the classroom that tought me "what a verb is? using the "hand full of ruler method".We then made our way to the big building.Helen if your out there I just want you to know I found that PRETZEL that Sr. ? said you stoled.It was found in the corner of the cloakroom not a bite out of. I really wanted the tree that was planted by Ms. Rielly's class for the very first Earth Day. but it has grown pretty tall.7000.00 for the stain glass window over the front of the church entrance.Tha sale continues until 3:00 Sunday.

to Barbara Carteiri, I don't remember you, but I do remember your brother Eddie. I played little league baseball with him at Western little league,as well as attending rez together. Haven't seen or heard of him in years, Hope he is doing well. Tell him i said hello. I also remember Sr. Francis Anne, she was my third grade teacher and one of my favorites, thru the years,another one I really liked was Sr. Anthony Depadua, as Irish as they come. I also remember Fr. mcSherry, he was the head of the altar boys, very stern and strict, but a real nice man. aHe used to take the altar boys on trips and pay for everything. One of the good priests that go forgotten in these times. .. Don't know what ever happened to him, but i do know that Sr. Francis anne died several years ago, as did sr. Anthony. Al.

A Rez tidbit - Most Amazing Catch Award This prestigious award is not the famous "over the shoulder" Willie Mays fly ball catch in center field or even the Franco Harris "Immaculate Reception". My award goes to my good friend Bob Blisard of Rez... who in 1969 at Clayton Park during a food fight caught a marshmallow in his mouth thrown by me from +60 yards away ..still ranks the highest (by me) in the West End Hall of Legends as the Most Amazing Catch ever seen by the human eye and something I will never forget. :)

Judy, I knew the Palmer's... I went to school with Joey, but I couldn't tell you where is he today. Last I heard he was in jail for drugs I think and that was about twenty-five years ago. I may be wrong. Such a waste of a good looking guy. All the girls had a thing for him. Anyway, I did a search of the area for you I did see a Lisa Palmer living in Marcus Hook Pa but no phone number. Plus I found a person by the name of Katherine Palmer living in Boothwyn but not the Kathy you are looking for. I'm sure their names may have changed, but not sure of that. I will try to ask around to see if anyone remembers. If you know anyone from the area you may want to see if they know anyone who knows the Palmer's, I'm sure they do too. Sorry! Leah

I was born in Chester, went to Rez. up until my 5th grade year. I went to school with Jay Dicave, Chris Cucci. Mark Yarrows. My best friend was Lisa Palmer, who I have been searching for ever since we left Chester for the second time in 1984.Lisa has a brother joey, Three sisters Chrissy, Donna, and Kathy. They lived on Highland ave. I lived on pulaski dr. my mother is Patrica Cunningham (Vantine) my father is John Cunningham. I am posting this message as a plea for help for one of our own who has been totally displaced by the flood in New Orleans. His name is John Specht, his mother was Mary Specht, (a well known name in the Rez community) (his sisters are Maryanne Specht Williams and Dolores Specht Green), he spent most of his life growing up at 1208 Kaystone Road. He has lived in New Orleans for the last 23 years. His job there has been working for an organization called Crossroads, Louisiana. This organization cares for several mentally and physically challenged people. His boss, Beverly, himself and most of the rest of the staff and their families evacuated New Orleans with these challenged people in fear of what was coming. They have been at a state park in Tenn., but are to be relocated on Tuesday to a facility in Nashville, Tenn. These staff members left New Orleans with very little, but with one concern in mind... the safety of their charges. People along the way have helped in ways that they could, a local hospital provided them with the necessary medications for their charges, which they were running out of. Others have given them clothes and food. But the real problem now is that they are running low on funds. They have used almost all the monies that they had with them. John and the staff need our help. I am asking for donations for them. These are people who have nowhere to go, and have been left with almost nothing, just the clothes on their backs... but that does not matter to them, their only concern was for their charges.

I just had a thought which may have been thought of before? How about a yahoo group? All you need is a yahoo id and you can sign up for a group. The group members can post e-mails there. Each member chooses to have the e-mails delivered individually, daily digest form, no mail delivered (just read at the site, or to receive only special announcements (EX. REUNION) There is also the ability to post pictures and files. The mail can go to the yahoo address can be setup to go to your regular e-mail address. If no one is interested in posting there at least it could be used as a reunion notification-if everyone would keep their e-mail address up to date! (the yahoo address doesn't change when your Internet Service Provider does- so that is a plus) Just a suggestion!

I just found out about the reunion! I thought there was an e-mail list that I was on to be notified. My mom and my aunt (the McGinn twins) knew nothing about it either so I took them to Cowtown for the day. We attended the last two and I am disappointed that we missed this one. Even though I am in Maryland I am always notified in the mail about the O'Hara yearly Lions in the Woods. Maybe a postcard wouldn't be too expensive to send out? Do we need a postcard/postage fundraiser?

I am so glad that I was able to go the 7/23/05 Rez Reunion and see people that I haven't seen for quite some time! And I had a chance to talk to a lot of of alumni from other years too. I have read that some people were disappointed with the turnout, but those of us who were able to attend had a great time. And I was especially impressed with the recipients of the scholarships. Their academic achievements were impressive and they certainly deserved the scholarships awarded to them. I am so very grateful to Dave, Bob, Maureen, Marie, Helen and all of the alumni who were involved in organizing this event. And I think it would be a great idea to have fundraisers for the scholarship program.

George, I'm not exactly sure what you are thanking me for, but maybe it's my old cheerleading days still having an effect on me. I absolutely adore what these great folks (John Bullock included) have enabled us to do. One day, every now and then, to go back, catch up, remember and be grateful. I will cheer them on for as long as possible. Go, go, go, go you mighty Rezzers...:)
Dan, you are so right. It's only one day, five hours, (well for some of us) and so very much worth it. There will of course be numerous reasons given, but let's not dwell on what happened, let's help get the word out. I've talked to a couple of people, and it's not that important to them, others just forgot, others had plans that could not be changed. I'm sure the next event will be better attended, but we have to help. One thing I've recommended is bookmarking this page. Some people just plain forget to do that. Another is perhaps we need to create another site, much like the one Shirley started, but that one doesn't seem to be working. That much, I can do (with my husband's help...) Another thing we can do to support the scholarship fund, is maybe do what I did today. Lots of us pay our bills on line, and(mea culpa) I have had every intention of making the fund a monthly payment this past year, but kept forgetting...so, today I went on-line and scheduled it for a regular monthly payment, that way I can't forget! Dogs on the Dunes has become huge, and granted we are not St James but we are REZ!! We can keep this going. I was thinking today, since Dave mentioned a fund raiser....maybe a beef and beer preceded by a mass in honor of Bill Waldron and other deceased Rezzers. One of my fondest memories is attending mass on Saturdays before a football game; I'm sure Mr Waldron would highly approve.
To my nephew Marty, CONGRATULATIONS!!! well deserved and we love you! Uncle Jim was quite proud when he heard the news.

I want to personally thank everyone who attended the third Rez Reunion. We had a lot of grads there from a lot of classes. They were from the class of 1937 up to the class of 1988. The committee works very hard to try and make these events unforgettable. It is hard work but if you asked each committee member how they feel after these events, they will all say it was for a good cause and worth it. I also want to thank John Bullock for his advertising and help all thru the year and Harry Chaykun for being at every reunion we've had. The Monday afterwards there is always something in the paper from him with REZ news. Also, picking a day was hard, but we couldn't have asked for the best possible weekend to hold this event. This is the third time we've done this and again we don't seem to be reaching out to everyone. If George Ricci and Terry Owsiany can fly in from Florida and there were some people who came from Maryland and Virginia, then we need to do a better job for the next time. We are open for ideas on how else to get everyone involved for the next time. Hopefully more people will be interested in the scholarship fund now, and the word will get out. Can't wait to start working on the next one.

As I drove past our church and school my heart was breaking. Mr Hill would be beside himself to see the grounds as they are today....But getting together with old friends at the reunion was a reminder that Rez was not just about the buildings, it was about heart,friendship and family. This is very hard to do but we have lost one very special Rezzer on June 26th at CCMC. He had been up with me since Xmas and we tried to get answers for not feeling normal and we did get discovery on some issues we found prostrate cancer in the bones by accident Dad had his prostrate remover 7-8 years ago and had recovered wonderful but it must of spread. He discovered a hematoma on the right side of the brain which was affecting the left side like a stroke. surgeons went in and drained the area and he came back great we were very surprizer and grateful but we had to stop blood thinners which Dad's body had so become use to because he had Vascular problems that is how he lost his leg. He was in Wallingford nursing home for rehab. a new leg fitted and walking 60-70feet and hopeful to get home and once again confusion set in this time a blood clot had made it's way to his lungs we did not know this at the time June 23rd back to CCMC test on tests and thurs. something happened as Brandon my son and myself visited. Dad started out fine eating It. water ice and drinking ice tea. We were all with him and he was comfortable. I need to tell all his players that they all where to this day a very important part of his life both my Dad and Mom enjoyed every bit of those years the stories never ended. I would love to hear your stories as Dave wrote. It is the memories that allow people to live on. Please tell me your experiences with my Dad good or bad he played such a big part in alot of lives. I will be there July 23rd as he would not of missed it.

As I recall, we never had much money growing up in the west end...no one seem to care about money or how well you dressed or did not dress back then. Playing sports meant sharing a glove with a friend and our bats and balls were always heavily taped and "ragged". I'll never forget when I first met Mr. Waldron in September 1966, he gave me a new pair of football shoes..high tops..they were a little big but to me it was like winning the nobel prize and I will never forget it. To me, Mr Waldron was Rez's good-hearted, jovial,honest,hardworking proud Irish football coach who together with many others at Rez dedicated much of their life to quality teaching & athletic programs and I for one am grateful that they did. God bless Mr. Waldon.

My best friend back in the late 60's early 70's was Geralyn Gail Savini, eldest daughter of Sam & Neva Sue Savini. I was wondering if anyone knew what became of them. Gerrie graduated from Archmere (the first girl to attend the previously all boy school); before that she was at Padua Academy in Wilmington. Some more INFO on the Rez Scholarship Fund Fastweb.com is a free scholarship service that has agreed to list the rez alumni scholarship in their database. The idea is to get the word out to as many eligible rez almuni students as humanly possible. However, only neighboring counties (Delaware, Chester, Bucks, Phila, Montgomery, Lehigh etc...will be targeted Fastweb.com. Therefore, if you know of an eligible student outside our neighboring Rez counties that is interested in applying please spread the word and direct them to this website to fill out the scholarship application form (above) and mail it in before June 30th. The Rez Scholarship Committee is very proud & pleased to announce that we plan to award 2 Rez Alumni scholarships at the next reunion celebration. These awards are the result of you, your generosity in both attending the previous events and those who contributed to the Rez alumni scholarship fund during the last 2 reunion celebrations.
Award winners do not need to be present.
Here are some of the details for those students interested in applying:
Rez Alumni Scholarship Fund Eligibility: Any child, grandchild or a relative of a Rez alumni currently living in the US that is a full time student atttending high school or will be attending college in the Fall 2005. Relatives of scholarship committee members are not eligible.
Rules: Submit no more than 1 page essay on “why you would like to be considered for the Rez alumni scholarship”. The essay template & the rez alumni mailing address will be included on this site
Awards (July 23, 2005) 2 Scholarship Awards for $1000.00 each: 1) Male and (1) Female • Winners names (if they agree) will be published in Daily Times
Scoring: The rez alumni scholarship committee will be responsible for validating the information and judging all essays submitted. Awards are final & will be selected based on need, desire to continue their education, family values, and involvement in community and extra curricular activities.
It is hoped that through the money received through future reunion celebrations and your generous donations that we can continue to offer future rez alumni scholarships on a annual basis.

Hi Gang and especially to the '65's,
It will be great to see everyone again. There were some great teachers (remember saying "ster") and priests during our time. Remember Father Duffy, Sister Sara (I had her in 2nd and 3rd grade), Sr. Jeanette Francis (5th grade) and the great nun we had in 8th grade who used to read the book "The Black Stallion" to us at the end of school. I'm having a senior moment (Help any one??) and cannot remember her name but she was terrific.
My heartfelt symphathies to the Chambers Family on the loss of Tom. He was a really nice kid (coached him at Chester West) and was a nice guy.

Donna L, I attended Notre Dame and had Sr. Gloria for Biology. I was the last sophmore class there. Then ended up going to O'Hara and graduating in '83. To the Reunion Committee,
Would it be easier to have an open house get together at the Kahunaville in Wilmington, DE, similar to what the Trainer School group did last year? There are plenty of things to do along the waterfront, and this shouldn’t require to much legwork. The people on the committee should be able to enjoy the day like everyone else and not have to spend months organizing the event.

I was so saddened when I came home that sunday afternoon to hear that my friend since kindergarden Pickle Pretti had passed away ,,it was hard to see her and read her obit,,,I last saw her on 4th of July at her house,,we were supposed to get together for lunch,,she wanted to spend some time with me and my new babygirl,,,I didn't realize she was so sick again,,,I will miss her alot,,,she was a good friend for a long time,,,Pickle also was always a good girl,,,a happy person,,,a real good friend,,,,love you Pickle......love Donna
