MessageI came across this site while looking for information about Claymont, and am happy to see so many familiar names. I am alumni of Class of 72 (should have been 70),and fondly remember all who have posted here. If the last name is confusing, I changed it many years ago from Gay, because of ignorant individuals that for some reason would block career and personal advancement. Imagine that... As most of you, my wife Carol and I have Grand Children; a 9 year old boy and a 2 year old girl. Our children, 3 girls age 28, 25 and 22 and one boy age 22 are all out on their own and are doing well. We live outside of Clayton DE, have three horses and are looking forward to retirement to the hills of Tennessee, Virginia or Kentucky, THANK GOD. Still a little crazy, sober for 4 years and have 2 kids.

Mother graduated from Claymont in ~'34. God Bless Claymont and all those who are associated with it.
They discovered crude oil deposits beneath Brookview apartments and are now in the process of building a refinery on the site.

Messageoh, such memories...the bridge in the woods between Ashbourne Hills and Claymont High. YIKES!!! (where 95 is now) were there really trolls or just good old juvenile delinquents that we were so scared of?
I think it was me and Bonnie Nash up on the overpass over 95....dont know why we were up there; it was under construction..policeman came and told us to GET DOWN...we didnt..we just froze.. it was a standoff...they finally left...havent thought about this in YEARS.. has anyone heard from Bonnie Nash? we were class of 1970.

MessageHello All. It's been about four months since I've been on this site. My computer died and then I couldn't get through to this site for a while.
Libby, I never had my party. My mom went into the hospital the day before Thanksgiving and we weren't sure what was going to happen from day to day. I decided it wouldn't be a good time for a big party. She was in the hospital for one month and they we moved her into an assisted living residence. She loves it. Maybe I have it next year. Glad to see you on the Class of '67 site. It's a fun site and Lee always keeps it interesting. I think we're right........it was Pat!

Well, maybe you can make your next trip back to the States for our 40th reunion. We will start working on it soon. My guess is it will be in the late summer of 2007, but that remains to be seen.

Have been reading all the entries.. am graduate from CHS class of 67..have read many names I am familiar with, but was not a member of the in crowd at that time. The older I get the more interested I become in the old times, old school, old sports teams, and acquaintances. I haven't pulled the old yearbook off the shelf in a long time, but intend on doing it soon..I need to put a face with the words in print. MessageSteven,,,, Well,,Kenny passed away Jan 31st at 8:32 am. he had another heart attack,,which took him. In total he had 10 heart attacks. He was still in the induced coma. I asked the doc if he would have felt or had any idea what was going on and they told me no....They told me he was so into the coma that he probably was gone last week , it was just his body there. It gives me comfort to know that he is with his best friends,,his brothers. He missed and grieved for them so bad, now he is with them again,,this time forever. Pam is being a bitch,,,she's not involving the family in anything. His kids are beside theirselves, they don't even know where he is being taken to. MessageSteven,,, so far Kenny is still hanging in there. His partner decided she wanted to try and take him out of the induced coma and then take the ventalator out. Well,,the doc's reduced the med a LITTLE bit on Wed past,,and he had another 3 heart attaks. Two Fridays ago,,he had 5,,thats why they put him into the induced coma,,,so his heart could relax a little...but the problem is...even when they go to move him,,he strokes out and needs to have the paddles on him. I have talked to the doc's at the hospital and they told me that his heart is like a rubber band,,,it's so damaged the bottom part is nearly gone. As his partner is considered next of kin,,we as sisters don't have a say in any decisions. What gets me is,,,she treated Kenny like shit,,,and now she's up there boo whoing. That give me the shits. I wish I could have told you better news,,but I feel thats not going to happen. Sooner or later,,something has to be done, Kenny can't go on like this. The doc told me that kens condition is VERY, VERY, VERY critical. I will keep you up to date as I find things out, I wasn't sure if you were getting my messages,,so I haven't been leting you know whats happening. So,,how is Doris??? MessageSteven,, I haven't heard from you in a while,,so I thought I better let you know how Kenny is doing. Kenny isn't going to make it. Probably before you read this he will be gone. He had his anerisum operation and didn't recover from it. He had 3 heart attacks,,2 which were friday past. He had to be recussed and put onto a resperator to keep him alive. He can't breath on his own,,when they try,,he stops breating. The family has been called in to make a decision on takeing him off and as soon as they do that,,he'll pass away in a matter of seconds. He's HEAVILY sediated,,so he knows nothing of what's happening...but I believe he can hear. So,,the family is there talking to him and all. My heart is broken again, as this is the 3rd brother passing in 3 years. Now it's just us girls. I'll be ringing the hosp up 11:00pm Mon night my time,,your time will be 8:00 am Monday morning. They then will know when the resperator will be turned off. I did tell Ken about your writeing me and he was going to give you a call when he came out of the hospital,,which now will never happen. Mr. James I. "Papi" Farrow, age 57 of Elkton, MD, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully on Wednesday, December 28, 2005, at his home.
Jim was born in Philadelphia, PA, son of the late James and Isabel Farrow. He was a master carpenter, expert chef, and an avid fisherman, who loved nothing more than quiet Sunday afternoon boat rides with his wife. Jim was dedicated to his family and cherished his grandchildren. He had a charismatic personality and lived an active and adventurous life.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Joy Farrow, of Elkton; his sisters, Patti Scarpitti, of New Castle, DE, Janet Hilty, of Chestertown, MD, Beth Farrow, of Claymont, DE and Susan Farrow, of Las Vegas, NV. Jim will also be deeply missed by his daughters, Purusha Rivera, of Bear, DE; Brandy Chieffi, of Wilmington, DE and Corrine Farrow, of New Castle, DE; and his grandchildren, Vincent Begatto, Maile and Neil Rivera, and Sofia Thomas.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, December 31, 2005, at the SPICER-MULLIKIN FUNERAL HOME, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where friends may call after 10 am.

MessageHi Steven,,Just thought I'd let you know. Kenny was admitted to the University of Phil Hospital today,,the 29th. He went for a MRI and the doc found out that he has 3 anarizions,,,the spelling is probably not right,,,but anyway,,there is one in the aortia,,,one in his side and one in his back. He went to the Riddle for the MRI and then was air lifted to the the University of Phil Hospital. He's being operated on probably Thurs. I rang the hospital and he is in intensive care. Also his one kidney isn't working right. I have to tell you that he is in BAD shape this time.. I just pray to God that he pulls through this. My sister told me that the one in his side is as big as a baseball. The doc's are really worried about the one near his heart. It'll be one year on the 30th that freemy passed away. I just hope that Kenny has the will and strenth to pull through this. I will keep you up to date on his progress. take care

MessageHi Libby! Hi Joe! I have snow and ice that just will not melt. It's pretty but a pain in the neck. I live in the mountains so I get a little more snow than those living in the DC metropolitan area. Last week I got home a little too late and could not make it up the hill and had to walk a quarter mile in the crunchy snow and sleet. I was ticked, to say the least. I tried walking in the street but kept sliding backwards. :) I had two big poinsettias and a bag of groceries. I thought I was going to have heart failure before I reached my porch. LOL LOL I'm changing my name when my divorce is final but he doesn't have medical insurance and I told him I would hold off until he got a job with benefits - well, hold off within limits. ;) Sheryle's party was canceled but I'm sure she will tell you about it when she can.
Joe, Mike and Corky are doing well. Corky actually rents a room from me and works for a flooring and cabinet store in Winchester. Mike is in construction and living in Florida. Neither one of them are married. Well, Mike has a long term girlfriend but I wish Corky would find someone to marry and move out! LOL He probably does, too. Send me an email anytime and I'll write more so I don't bore everyone on the msg board. Good to hear from you.

I remember Kenny used to play cowboys and indians with some boy named Jimmy Stewart,,he lived on Spruce Street. Remember the hill on Maple street,,when it snowed everybody would be there with their new sleds they got for Christmas?? What is Doris doing these days??? You'll have to tell her about this site,,so I can chat with her. John used to live in Haynes, Flordia. So did Freem,,but for only about 2 years. Do you remember at Christmas time when the whole village would be decorated with lights..man,,that was so nice. As a little kid,,,a bunch of us would go caroling around the streets,,then after we got done,,we'd take the bulbs out of the sockets and pop them on the street. Some people put lights up here,,,but notlike I was used to. Christmas was never the same after I moved here. I really miss the family get togethers over the hoildays. I rememebr Curt to. MessageI am Doris Weldon's Brother, I was very good friends with Kenny we actully went to the Navy together on the buddy system.. And I served with him on the USS Coral Sea. I'm sorry to hear about all of the cancer in your family and even more saddend to hear about you brothers health. I've been married three times and have a very beautiul marriage now... I have 6 six children of my own from the second and two step children from my newest marrage. Alicia, Nick, Todd, Dawn, Daniel and Jason and I lost a child to SIDS his name was Kenny he was named after your brother.. Everyone of my Sisters and brother are doing great, they all live in Florida. My health on the other hand has seen better days. I have epilepsy and I to like your brother have a heart condition, I've had 5 heart attacks. I'm now Sixty years old. My momther passes away on the 18th of November at 76. She lived in Florida with my siblings, she to had Cancer
lymphoma Cancer.. My father died 19 years ago of Leukemia. I have three Grandchildren and one on the way Alicia's child Ariona Nick's sons name is Kayleb and he has a daughter on the way. and Dawns daughters name is Kaylee.. Todd has not had a child yet.. but I can't remember where from?? Must be old age. Refresh my memory. Did your Mom know me?? Old age is a
bitch,,, lol,lol,.. I'm doing really good. I moved to Australia in 1979,,my husband is Australian. I have 2
children,,, Brian,,,31 and Stephanie,,21. I'm not a grandmother yet. My Brother John passed away 2 years
ago,,, he had tongue cancer,,, it was a horrible way to go,, it was so bad.
Freeman,,, my oldest brother passed away a year this Dec. 30th,,he had heart attack. Kenny is still
here,, but his health isn't to good either,, he has a bad heart,, mind you they all
smoked,, which was the main factor in both of my brothers that passed away. Kenny lives in Aston. Joyce my oldest sister lives in Tenn. She had rectum
cancer,, but is 100% all cured. Darlene also had bowel cancer,, she went through a tough
time,, but it on her way to a full recovery. She lives in Maryland. So,, with all the cancer in my
family,, I go get my check ups quite regularly. Sorry to hear about your Mom,,,,what happened with her??? Do you know my brothers and sister??? You aren't Doris Weldons brother are you??? I try to get back home as often as I
can,, but the air fare is so expensive...I was back 2 years ago,, when John and Joyce were sick. I would like to get back more
often,, but !! It's summer here now and I must tell you,,,,that Christmas is nothing like the ones home... It's so
different,,, you cook a turkey in the middle of summer.. no snow and it's HOT !!! After 26 years of
living here,, you'd think I was used to it,, but I'm not. I did go back home one time in the
winter,,, I took my daughter,,, she hated it,,, too cold for her,, I quite enjoyed the snow and

Sorry I took so long to get back. My DSL was unhooked for a while as I moved my room around. Yes, I would love you to send me the photo/photos.
I'll look around for some shots of my end of Marion Avenue. I know there are some. Funny you mentioned Mickey's house. About 3 or 4 years ago, I met up with Billy Gafford. I used to go dancing on Friday nights at "Porkys". There was a crew of us "oldies" that would go there and dance to the oldies until about 9 PM when the young kids would take over. I met a guy there that was from Brookhaven, PA who went to school with Billy after they moved from Claymont to Brookhaven, PA. I told him to tell Billy I said hello. Well, Billy showed up one Friday night. He said Mickey is living around Tampa, FL, and I think his younger brother was down there also. Billy stayed in Pa. Sheila said she used to see your mom. Your mom said that she had lent some photos to Martha/Marti Sheik's mother who was the Claymont historian, so to speak, and she never got them back. Were you aware of those photos? I guess Martha is now the official historian. I'll have to remind Sheila of victory over you in chess and see if she remembers. She was much better at chess than I. Seems I'd rather be dancing, if I can remember correctly. LOL

I am trying to gather as many as possible and don't have any of the end of your street. I think it now ends about at the Konegan house. I remember playing kick ball down at the circle. I will tell Sheila you said "hello". Sheila's first husband was the Jimmy Crawford in the class of '65. He had dark hair and played the drums in the group "The Turfs", with Wayne Watson, Barry Jedlicka, and Dave Daller. The one with red hair was in our class. They both lived in Ashborne Hills.
My son, Jeremy, lived in Jersey City, NJ and worked in the financial district at the time of 9/11. He used to take the PATH train into and under the Trade Center to go to work. Fortunately, he was visiting with me down the Jersey Shore on that infamous day. His place of employment was destroyed and he lost his job. Since so many had lost their jobs, it was most difficult for him to find a new one for months. He did not lose any friends or co-workers, though, which is a good thing.

Just a note on Holly. She is in the area. I'm trying to remember where........north Wilmington, somewhere. I seem to remember like in the Surrey Park or Brandywood area. I could be wrong, but I know it's somewhere in that area. I saw her in Rehoboth last summer.
I could connect with Lisa Brittingham. She and Holly have kept up the connection since school. Lisa used to live in Lititz, Pa.and we used to keep up communication, but it's been a while.

The years have flown by so fast,,it seems like yesterday that we all graduated,,but the body is telling me thats not true,,lol,lol,.. I'm good and my family is also. I have 2 children Brian whos 31,,he's a weilder and a boiler maker, he's not married ,,but his girlfriend lives with him. I have a duaghter,,Stephanie,,she's 21 and works with kids,,,in a child care center. She's still at home,,but has a boyfriend. I keep telling her she's to young to settle down,,enjoy life. I'm not a Grandmother yet. I would love to be,,but!!! I've been married now going on 32 years !! WOW,,that sounds like a long time..I've know Paul since I was 17,,so I guess it is a long time. Australia,,what can i say about it !! It is nice. It's alot different than the States,,,but I will always consider myself American. Some places are really beautiful,,although I haven't traveled around alot here,,,but they show alot on TV. I still have my sisters and brother in the states,,so i try to get back as much as I can,,but it's so expensive. With the exchange rate,,I lose alot in the money exchange part. So,,your starting oyur own business...You should try to market them world wide. Thats a different thing,,people will grab onto that. Try down here,,they copy Americans all the time. It's now going into our summer. The winters,,where I live,,is mostly rain. It does snow in the mountains,,but I don't go there. Even in the winter,,it's not like the winter in the States, you can go without a coat. I been here now going on 26 years and been back home about 6 times. I still get homesick and wonder why i moved here. But,,,my kids would never move to the States and there is no way that I would move back and leave them here,,so I guess I'm stuck here. It would be good to get back for a class reunion. When do you think it'll be?? Is Holly still married to Jack?? I remember Jimmy,,didn't he have red hair?? Great hearing from you. Hope all is well with you and yours. Australia, huh? Such a beautiful place, at least that's how it appears. No, Nick and I split up back in '87. We are still good friends, though. We have two sons. Justin is 28, a drummer and auto tech. He lives here in Wilmington and just got back from a 20 day tour of Europe playing with his band. Jeremy is 24,living in New York, a singer,songwriter and actor, waiting for that record deal to happen, waiting tables to pay the bills. How about you?
Sheila still lives in Claymont in Rolling Park. She married Jimmy Crawford (drummer from the Turfs, class of '65) and had a son, Travis, now 35, a freelance writer and one of the producers for the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival. They divorced around 1971. She is now remarried with a son and a daughter, both in college.
I saw Holly last summer at Rehoboth eating in the same restaurant I was. It's been quite a while since I've seen Lisa. My ex-boyfriend I visited her in the Lancaster area, Lititz, one year, but that was quite a while ago. Kathy Donahue I saw within the last 5 years. She was teaching art, but I can't remember which school. Susan and I see each other from time to time. She just emailed me about working on the next reunion. Let me see.......we saw each other at a crab feast last year.
Claymont has really taken a dive over the past years, but with that whole area of Brookview being slated to come down, with new townhouses and condos going up, some of which will be selling for as much as 495K, it appears to be destined for a change for the better.
I've forever been in retail, but got totally burned out. I now dabble a little in real estate, work part-time at Curves (good way to keep in shape and get paid for it), and am starting a little company making cell phone holders for the wrist. I live right down the street from Salesianum High School. I have a co-op in Brooklyn, NY, where my son lives and use when I want to do the NYC thing, and I spend most of my time during the summer at my place in Cape May. Hopefully, you can make the next reunion when we have it all planned.

I was a member of class of 81 and grew up in Knollwood what was known as the hill but before that is was called worthland. It is really neat to hear the stories of times before me.
I had many and many of good times growing up in claymont and the hill and to go back and see what it is like now only saddens me. Claymont steak shop is not what it use to be and now there is a new one at harvey rd in the shopping area called franks I think but they make a sub that would remind you of the old greek subs.

Kathy, I don't know if you remember me? I remember going over to your and Bill's place, hanging out with Mike and Leslie sitting around the table and having a good time. I did graduate from Claymont in 67, but alot of people don't remember because I came back to Claymont in the middle of the senior year. I do run into Bill once in awhile. Sorry to hear about Mike and Leslie. I don't think I can remember a time they were not together. I run into Ron Annone now and then; also see Tim Ross. Tim owns a garden center called "Always the Garden". It is located just south of Silverside road on the Phila. Pike. I also keep in touch with Elmer Holland and Joe

Karlik (Class of 70). As I have been reading on here Claymont is changing. Matter of fact, Brookview is going to be sold and it is rumored they are going to build new homes there. Good to read what old classmates are doing and am glad to have found the site. Jim Govatos told me about it. He went to Claymont but moved to Brandywine High after Interstate 495 was built. It tore apart our whole neighborhood. I was sick when it tore down the big mansion I grew up in. I can't believe they tore down the bowling alley and put up a "Super Fresh" food store. The last time that happened,, a virus got in and ruined my computer. Sounds like you have a good job. I used to work for a company that had business branches through out Australia,,,,I did all the data entries,,, etc. I worked there for 10 years and then decided I needed a change,,,so I left there and worked in the hospital for 7 years. There were alot of changes in the health system here,,,makeing it VERY hard work,,so I left there and went to work at Franklin Mint,,,that was a really good job. But they closed down,,,I worked there for 6 years. How old is your daughter now??? Bill never remarried,,damn !!!! Is Susan and Bobby Skross still married??? Who did Sheryl Freeze marry??? Didn't she used to go out with Nick Dpinto??? Your new goal sounds good,,,It's nice to have something to aim for. Yea,,,32 years is a long time. I must admit,,,it always hasn't been a bed of roses. Liveing here and haveing no family,,makes it hard. I meant to ask you,,what ever happened to Jackie Malone,,Tim Reineer and all those guys??? Does Bill ever see any of them??? Do you remember ALice Smith??? She used to go out with Timmy. I looked in the year book the other day,,, gee, time has flown by so quick. When I was over the States,,,about 3 years ago,,,I met Hollys Dad at the club,,,my Brother was a memeber and we went down there for a FEW (ha ha) drinks. If my memory is right,,,I think he told me that Hollys brother Jeff, died from a heart attack,,,am I right???? I was quite shocked. What does Bill do for a job??? Libby, wow - Australia and married for 32 years! That's a long time. Congrats. Bill never remarried. We take turns (well, he has more turns than me) staying with our sixteen year old granddaughter when our daughter goes out of town. He lives on the Hill and has lived in Claymont all his life. I've lived in Florida several times, Texas several times and California. Usually I move because of a better job. I work for a satellite company in Washington, DC as an Accounting Manager. Last year I decided to "downsize" companies because I have been in the high tech rat race for the past 15 years. I've worked for Siemens, Dell Computer, America Online and CACI. High level positions with high exposure so you have to always be on your toes. Now I work for a smaller company with less stress. I'm hoping to retire within a few years and my new honey and I are going to sail away to the US Virgin Islands. Of course, it is a goal right now and may not reach fruition but who knows? My son has a girlfriend who lives with him and my daughter,,she's still at home. I met my husband after I graduated,,where I worked,,Teledyne Wirz,,in Chester. Hi Libby and Pat - I'm well and Bill and I divorced after 6 years of marriage so that was a long time ago. I moved to Texas and met my next husband. We just recently separated after 30 years and now I have a new honey that I found on classmates.com. He's not from Delaware so no one will know him. I have not seen anyone for a long time (other than Bill and that's because we have a daughter that we both visit). The last time I saw Holly was maybe 17 years ago and a group of us met at her house - Holly, Lisa Brittingham, Kathy Donahey, Sheryle Frieze, Peggy Shoemaker. We had a blast. I chat with Sheryle online frequently and talk to Karen Baker (Jeb's sister) every day. My daughter Stacey lives in Claymont and has 2 daughters and one grandchild (yes, I'm a great grandmother) and I have 2 sons - one 20 and the other 21 that still live with me. Pat, Mike lives in northern Florida. He comes up occasionally to visit but not often. When he goes to Claymont he stops by to see Mary Thomas. Claymont has changed alot. If you drive through Claymont now you can see it changing every day. New Waterfalls across from the post office. New Dunk'n'Donuts across from the Firehouse. The Firehouse is going to get a facelift also. A new radio station in Claymont "The Ticket - All Sports Radio - 1290" great sports talk shows. A new Wawwa at Harvey and Phil pike.

I was back there from March 2002 till September 2003 and I never did get used to the NEW Claymont - so cold and without any personality. I went back to the states a few times over the years,,I lived in Australia now going on 26 years. I went back to CHS,,only to find that it's not there anymore. The area sure isn't the same...really looks bad. Alot of commission houses are there now. The steak shop is still there though. This is a good site to get in touch with old friends. Yeah - I still remember some - I have been looking for a chance to talk to some of the "old" classmates, and this seems to be a good one. Sandy Shank Gallagher of our class told me about this site, and I see that Janice Boyer VanBlarcom has checked in, too. Thank you, John Bullock, for putting this site together. I like it as a work in progress. Life is a work in progress!
Some of you might remember my brothers: Vince ('64) and Phil ('67). Libby, Phil was in your class. He was very quiet, sort of blended into the woodwork. Our mother, Janet Scheel, worked at the high school. She was usually the first person a visitor met when entering the building...she operated the swithboard at the reception desk. My dad worked at Sun Ship in Chester for a number of years.
We lived on Brandywine Avenue, next to to Janice Boyer's best friend, Janice Sheldon, and across from the Thompsons and Manleys. Joneses lived on Brandywine, closer to Commonwealth. Ellises and Walkers did, too. Janice Sheldon's cousin Carolyn, in our class, lived on Fourth Street, as did the Sissons and Moudys. On Third Street were the Wheatley, Lecates, Marge, Parlier fmailies, plus others I can't remember at the moment. Sunny Smith lived there, too.
I'm updating the class of 1962 directory, and would appreciate any information that you could give me to help us get in touch with the following people: Stephen G. Had several Prospect Park kids and Chester kids move to Claymont also, so it must have been the up-and-coming town to move to...I lived in apartments in Brookview, on Lawson Ave. across from the firehouse, on Phila. Yes,,Joyce is my sister. Also Darlene,,brothers Kenny, Freemy, and Johnny. John died last year of cancer of the tongue. It was just terible. He went through hell. I miss him so much. He lived in Flordia with his wife and kids (2). Kenny lives my Booths corner,, Joyce lives in Tenn. and Darlene lives in Aston. Freemy lives in Florida with his wife. He's very happy. Do you remeber when he was married to Ann way back when,,well Freemy's wife Lana died of cancer going on 2 years ago. His daughter to Ann found him and they went to Pa to see him after something like 25 years,,anyway to cut a long story short,,when Lana died,,Freemy and ann ended up getting married again. As you can see,,I live in Australia. I been here now going on 25 years. The only regret I have about moveing here,,is I miss my family. So,,how's all you family doing?? Graduated with the GREAT class of 65. I was raised in Radnor Green on Osage Road just down the street from Joanne Hatz, Margie Biddle, the Hession clan and around the corner from Ronnie Skross and his family. Oh, the memories of days gone by. Loved finding this page and seeing a few familiar names. John Scroupa and I attented the same church (St. Marks Lutheran in Wilmington) Maybe some of you out there will remember my older brother Bob (Percy to alot of folks). He also is living in the same area as I am, only a stones throw away. (You'd have to have a pretty good arm.) Younger brother Steve is located in New Jersey. My younger sister, Margie, passed away in 1972 and both of my parents passed away two years apart in the late 1980's. I've rambled on long enough. I see people looking for Paulette. Would that be Paulette Skross of the class of '68? If so, I think her married name is Paulette Wilcox (married Boots Wilcox, a Realtor). The Paulette I'm thinking of married a guy named Joe from the class of '67 right out of high school, although I could be getting Paulette mixed up with another Paulette. Seeing the Claymont library mentioned brings back memories of the original Claymont library, which was housed in a one-room, stone school house on the corner of Naamans Road and the Philadelphia Pike. Before it was turned into the Claymont Library, it was literally a one-room schoolhouse and, as ancient as it makes me sound, it's where I went to kindergarten before entering Green Street Elementary School. Good grief! I'm "only" 53 but I actually attended school in the proverbial one-room school house! Oh well, this 53 year-old is fighting age all the way and received a HUGE Harley for my 50th birthday and am riding that thing every chance I get! I intend to use this life up and squeeze every ounce out of it--laughing all the way! How about the rest of you?

What a nice surprise to find this board! Some of the old names in the Emails bring back memories--Tim and Bill Rineer, Elaine and Jackie Plumley, Nick's, Green Street, etc. Claymont has changed drastically over the years. I rarely see a familiar face from high school days. I did run into Timmy Ross at his landscape/garden center a few years ago, and it was good to see him. The one and only reunion I attended was the 20th for the Class of '68. I'd love to go to another one, but haven't heard of plans for one. With name and address changes, we become hard to find for notices about reunions, so a website is a terrific idea.

it's good to see that somebody has found the site. I've beeb writing with no success of returns I graduated from CHS in 1967. Yea,,I remember Smiths drugstore, how about Nick's,,remember that store on the corner of commonwealth street?? Those senior steps!! What a feeling to climb them..it made you feel like you owned the school. I remember Mr Phillips,,a great man and I also remember the other teachers. I have alot of great memories from CHS. Do you remember Mrs Anderson the Homech teacher?? I got cought plenty of times skipping class from her,,(Old bag). The bonfires,,,now they were something to go to!!! The proms,,etc..what can I say? Just magic. If only the world was the way it was when we were young. When I went baak to the states I went past CHS and was very suprised that they tore it down to. Claymont sure has changed over the years.. I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it,,but nothing can take away the memories that I have of good ol Claymont High. I would have loved to go to the reunion,,but as I live SO far away ,,,it makes it imposible for me to atttend. Janice you graduated in,,do you rememebr any body from Claymont??? Just found this site today! This is great. I graduated from Claymont High School in 1962. My mother still lives on Lincoln Ave. in Claymont. Every time I go "home to Claymont" it makes me sad to know that the high school is gone. It was wonderful to be able to use the "Senior Stairs" in old main after being there 11 years. Remember the bonfire that kicked off the opening football game the next morning. Anybody remember Henry Phillips the guidence counselor? or David Owen who taught English? or Mr. Malin who taught biology in 10th grade, or Coach Salisbury and Miss Pack? Is till hate Miss Pack!!! Those were the days---Homecoming, the Proms, hanging out at Smith's drugstore after school. Those are memories that will never fade. Keep this site moving! Love all you guys from CHS the purple and gold.

My wife and I are good friends with Alexs mom and dad. Mary Alex's mother passed away
last year.We see Frank once in awhile.
By the way the school was not torn they use it as the elementry school but they did
tear done Green St. elementry school and replace with houses and now it is called
Greenshire.
More and more of the people we knew are moving out of the area.
The Claymont libaray is located in what use to be the Jr. High. The building is now
called the Claymont Community Center.
I used to live in Chester and graduated from Chester High. My with wife is from Trainer
and graduated from Notre Dame.
It was nice to hear from you and will talk to some those people that sill here.

Hi Lee,,,gald to see somebody noticed the Claymont Site. I lived on 4th Street. I went
to Claymont High. Do you know a Paulette Icano?? She lived on Green Street to. The house
right by the alley on the left hand side of the street giong away from the school. I hung
around with her for many years. She has a sister to,,but I forgotten her name..I think it
might be Lucy ???? I was in the states in April this year and went through Claymont,,,it
