Text of Obituary: John "Jack" Wickersham Sr., 71, of Boothwyn, a former Chester Fireman of the Year, died Nov. 16 at the Crozer Chester Medical Center.

Born in Chester, he lived there until moving to Boothwyn.

He worked for Sun Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company before serving in the European Theater during World War II, where he was in the U.S. Army. From 1945 to 1970, he worked for the Pennsylvania Industrial Chemical Co. From 1970 to 1985, he worked as an electrician for the Crozer Chester Medical Center.

He was a member of the Goodwill Fire Co. in Chester, and was nominated as the City of Chester's Fireman of the Year.

Mr. Wickersham was a lifetime member, past president and trustee of the Parkside Fire Co.; and a member of the Bonaventure V.F.W. Post in Aston.

He is survived by a son, John J. Wickersham Jr. of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Shirley A. Green of Newark, Del.; two sisters, Dorothy Crooks of Upland, and Jayne Wickersham of Chester; a very dear friend, Arlean Theresa O'Brien of Boothwyn; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Nolan-Fidale Funeral Home, 2316 Providence Ave., Chester. Burial will be private.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
