Text of Obituary: Joseph J. Elia, 49, of Glenolden, material representative for Boeing Helicopters, died July 15 at Springfield Hospital.

Born and reared in Chester, he is the son of the late Joseph and Frances Cimaruta Elia. A 1960 graduate of St. James High School, Mr. Elia served with the U.S. Army.

Employed by Boeing for the last 24 years, Mr. Elia lived in Glenolden for the last three years and previously made his home in Parkside. He belonged to the Business Management Association at Boeing and enjoyed playing golf.

Surviving are his wife of three years, Janet Abt Elia; two daughters, Marissa Elia of Aston and Christina C. Sharpless of Parkside; a stepdaughter, Kristie Graham of Glenolden; a stepson, William Graham of Norwood, and one granddaughter.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. George's Catholic Church, Lamont Avenue, Glenolden. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and after 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Cavanagh Family Funeral Home, 301 Chester Pike, Norwood.

The family requests memorials in the form of Mass cards.
