Text of Obituary: William J. Dechant, 81, of Upper Chichester, a former warehouseman, died Jan. 21 at Sacred Heart Medical Center, Chester.

Born in Chester, Mr. Dechant lived in Brookhaven for 21 years before moving to Upper Chichester a year and a half ago.

He was employed by Night Owls, Chester, as a warehouseman for 30 years before his retirement in 1974.

Mr. Dechant belonged to Franklin Fire Company and the Delaware County Firemen's Association. In recent years, he was a member of St. John Fisher Catholic Church. Previously, he was an active member of Our Lady of Charity Catholic Church.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Helen M. Brennan Dechant; three sons, William J. Dechant Jr. and John F. Dechant, both of Upper Chichester, and Thomas F. Dechant of Aston; a sister, Fern Farmer of Gwynhurst, Wilmington, Del.; and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday from the Carr Funeral Home, 935 S. Providence Road (Route 320), Wallingford, where there will be a calling hour until 9:30 a.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 4225 Chichester Avenue, Upper Chichester. Burial will be in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Marple.

Memorial contributions may be made in the form of Mass cards.
