Text of Obituary: 

Robert M. Coombs, 74, of Chester, a retired firefighter and World War II veteran, died Aug. 23 in Chester.

Born, reared and educated in Chester, Mr. Coombs lived his entire life in the city. A graduate of Chester High School, he was employed by Weathers Dodge of Lima as an auto mechanic for several years. Later, Mr. Coombs worked as a firefighter for the Good Will Fire Co., retiring after 20 years of service.

Mr. Coombs was an honorary member of Felton Fire Co. and the Good Will Fire Co. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Central Europe and the Rhineland.

Mr. Coombs was the son of [the] late George and Mary Anna McCrystle Coombs. He was the brother of Josephine Leonard, Louise Loveland and Margaretta Clark, all deceased.

Survivors: Wife, Elizabeth Brady Coombs; daughter, Joyce Elias of West Chester; stepdaughters, Barbara Ann Loveland of Chester, Rosemary Loveland of Brookhaven; stepson, Walter Loveeland of Chester; brother, George Coombs of Morehead, N.C.; sister, Dorothy Kane of Brookhaven; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Service: 10 a.m. Thursday at the Nolan-Fidale Funeral Home, 2316 Providence Avenue, Chester.

Visitation: 8:30-10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Chester Rural Cemetery, Chester.

Contributions: Crozer Hospice, 1 Medical Center Blvd., Upland, PA 19013.

Notes: Mr. Coombs was born 10/19/1924.
