John B. Ashby, 73, of the Folsom section of Ridley Township, a retired SEPTA bus driver, died Sept. 19 at home.

Born in Chester, Mr. Ashby was the son of the late James and Mary Brooks Ashby. He lived in Chester before moving to Folsom 38 years ago. Mr. Ashby began his career with the former Southern Penn Bus Co., Chester, and the Red Arrow Bus Co., which became part of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority. He worked as a SEPTA bus driver for 40 years before retiring in 1982.

He was a veteran of World War II who served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Mr. Ashby was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, the Franklin Fire Co. and the Felton Fire Co.

Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Olga Ishchuk Ashby; a son, Stephen Ashby of West Goshen, Pa.; two daughters, Denise Arthur of Norwood and Mary Everett of Woodlyn; two brothers, Edward Ashby and Joseph Ashby, both of Marcus Hook; three sisters, Elaine McKniff of Middletown, Mary Palmer of Deptford, N.J., and Jane Kish of Indian Springs, Del.; and five grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late Regina I. Ashby.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 501 Milmont Avenue, Milmont Park, Ridley Township. Burial will be in Lawn Croft Cemetery, Lower Chichester. Calling hours are 8 to 9 a.m. Thursday at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ridley Park.

Memorial contributions may be provided Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 501 Milmont Ave., Milmont Park, PA 19033 or Taylor Hospice, C/O Taylor Hospital, Ridley Park, PA 19078.

Notes: Mr. Ashby was born 9/1/1921.
