Regina J. Hynes, 84
Chester Upland educator for 50 years

Regina J. Hynes, 84, of Chester, died Feb. 17 at the Crozer-Chester Medical Center.

Born in Chester, Ms. Hynes earned her bachelor's degree in education and her master's degree in counseling from the University of Pennsylvania. An educator in the Chester Upland School District for 50 years, she taught mathematics and science at Chester High School from 1935 to 1958. Ms. Hynes rose through the administrative ranks there, working as guidance department chair, vice principal, principal and director of curriculum, retiring in 1985. She served in the U.S. Navy Waves from 1943 to 1947 and then in the U.S. Navy Reserve, retiring as a commander in 1969. She was a member of Blessed Katharine Drexel Church, formerly St. Robert's. Ms. Hynes was the daughter of the late Harry A. and Adelaide R. Roney Hynes; and the sister of the Rev. Harry J. Hynes, who died in 1974.

Survivors: Sisters, Josephine Hynes of Chester, Catherine Keenan of Norwood; four nephews.

Mass: 11 a.m. Saturday, Blessed Katharine Drexel Church, 20th Street and Providence Avenue, Chester.

Visitation: 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Carr Funeral Home, 935 S. Providence Road (Route 320), Wallingford.

Burial: SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Marple
