Clarence D. Bell

Born: February 4, 1914

Died: July 26, 2002

Parents: Samuel R. & Belle Hanna Bell. His father, who died in 1937, was a builder who built 1000 homes in Chester, Upland and Eddystone. His mother died when he was 3.

Education: Swarthmore College & Harvard Law School

Service in the PA Legislature:

First elected in 1954

Served in PA House of Representatives 1955-1961

Served in PA Senate 1961 until his death.

At the time of his death, he was the longest serving public official in PA.

Military service:

In 1932 at age 18, enrolled in the "Citizens Military Training Corps.

1935: Enlisted in the Army

1940: Transferred to the Army Reserve, Served 62 months in active duty in WW II.
